Children of the Revolution

deep in the heart of downtown LA the embodiement of the Moulin Rouge exsists. it was a gathering of artists, models and musicians. the activities don't even get going till 11:00 pm but it's what you always thought a drawing jam should be. here's my study of just one of the figures posing last night. i felt like a "real" artist.

V for Vasquez

we went to Vasquez Rocks today to sketch. the day started out sunny and warm and then turned cold an windy on us. this, fortunately, is from the sunny part of the day and was painted using the full version of Painter 9.

Sketch in Progress

here's a little something i started last week and finally got a chance today to do something with it. it's not finished yet but far enough along that i don't hate it. these kind of sketches are fun because there is no wrong answer and it's almost meditative figuring out what the shapes are going to be.
Obviously the foreground elements are completely unfinished at this point.

Back to Union Station

the roof was tricky the first time i painted here, so i wanted another crack at it. i also had my second battery today and that made a big difference as well. Nick Pugh was there with us today too. he's writing a book on digital plein air. http://www.nickpugh.com/

Hollywood Forever

i passed this masoleum a while back when i was visiting the cemetary for their movie night. yes, they project movies on the side of one of the masoleums during the summer. i was caught by the soft rosey light that permeated the entire setting and have been wanting to capture it in paint ever since.

Head Demo

i did this for my Monday night Vis Dev class at Art Center. i'm still hot on Painter Essentials. i took it a bit farther than i did initially in the class demo. the form is the same, i just refined it a bit.
