i thought this would be a good challenge, the effect of the overcast day was nice but could i pull off a painting that wouldn't put folks to sleep. it came out better than i hoped and incidentally was done completely on location. no photos.

Millard Canyon
i've been trying to get a painting since college that captured Millard Canyon and this is the first one that was close. i have also added my value study that i started with so you can see a little of the process. Photoshop cs2 .

it started out as a speed painting but turned into something a little more elaborate. i guess some people rest on their day off. it's 90% Painter and 10% Photoshop.
Speed Painting- Tree Stump
another in the recent series of value based sketches. i say value based because i am less concerned with "naturalistic" truth than i am with creating a mood where the value design takes precedent. it was back to using Painter for this one.
