Lesser known Berkey paintings

everyone has several artists that influence them and John Berkey has always been on the top of my list. he passed away this year and i've been wanting to do a tribute to him for awhile. one of the main reasons i was drawn to him as an artist was because he made up or invented so much of what he painted. this to me was the supreme end goal and i tailored my education around getting the skills that would allow me to do the same. i collected everything i could on him before the publication of the two books on his art and wanted to share some of the clipings from my collection that aren't usually seen. i had the privelge of meeting John one Christmas and i know that oppurtunity made me a better artist.

Spainish Architecture

i thought i might have attempted a little too much with this. halfway thru i got that,"oh no, it's getting away from me" feel but i made some paths for the arches and cleaned them up and then approached the building on the right section by section and it all turned out well in the end. all from life, no photos. i say that because even people who stop by to see what i'm doing ask, "did you start with a photo?"

NEW DIGITAL PLEIN AIRE

i've been working on shapes a lot and keeping things on separate layers so i can modify the shapes individually. i thought this one captured the feel of autumn in Millard Canyon.
